At Garlinge Primary School and Nursery we aim to provide extra high quality teaching/coaching opportunities for children in the form of After School Clubs. The clubs usually take place between 15:15 and 16:15 and are operated by teachers, support staff or outside organisations, all of which will have had the relevant safeguarding checks.
The aim of the after school clubs is to provide extra opportunities for children to develop their social, emotional and educational skills, as well as to build self -confidence, encourage team work and have the opportunity to make new friends.
Listed below are some examples of clubs that have taken place here at Garlinge Primary School and Nursery:
The clubs are offered to a range of different age groups with all key stages having various opportunities at different times during the year. In the first instance, letters will be distributed to the relevant classes explaining the type of club that is being offered; when it will take place and whether or not there is a cost involved. Where there is a cost, this will be kept to a minimum amount as we always aim to provide best value for money. Part of the letter will have a tear off slip that needs to be returned to the class teacher or directly to the school office, if you prefer. A prompt response is recommended as generally most clubs are over-subscribed.
A confirmation slip will be sent home to children that have been successful in gaining a place in the club. This is usually a week after the initial letter has been distributed to children. In the event that you do not receive a reply slip you can presume that your child has, on this occasion, not been allocated a place.
Places are offered on a rota basis in order to give all children an opportunity to take part in something that they have requested. In the event that a club is over- subscribed we operate a waiting list and will contact parents/carers, if and when a place becomes available.
It is important to point out that children should be aware that requesting to be part of a club is a commitment, particularly with regard to clubs such as Athletics or Choir, which involves preparation for future events.
Children also need to be aware that whilst attending the club, good behaviour is expected at all times. If children cannot meet this request they will be given a warning and parents or carers will be informed. If children continue to misbehave during this time, they will be removed from the club and the place will be offered to another child on the waiting list.
If you have any queries regarding any of the after school clubs or you would like to provide us with any feedback following your child's experience, please email Mrs P Askew , the Club Co-ordinator, or telephone the school office between the hours of 12:30 and 16:30 on 01843 221877 (Option 3).
