Year 6 Online Safety Session with Thanet District Council - 19 Oct 2026

Year 6 pupils recently took part in an engaging online safety session delivered by Thanet District Council. The session focused on helping pupils understand how to stay safe online, make responsible choices and recognise potential risks when using the internet and social media.

Pupils participated in a range of interactive activities, including The Human Search Engine, the Share or Scare Challenge, Power Up Problem Solving and Find the Fake. These activities encouraged pupils to think critically about the information they find online, identify misleading or false content, and consider the possible consequences of sharing personal information or images.

Pupils explored the importance of protecting their privacy, communicating respectfully online, recognising potential risks and knowing what to do if something they encounter online makes them feel uncomfortable or worried. The session also highlighted that primary school-aged children are below the minimum age requirement for almost all mainstream social media platforms.

Overall, the session provided Year 6 with valuable opportunities to develop their digital awareness and confidence. By the end of the session, all pupils felt more confident about navigating the digital world safely and responsibly. They were encouraged to think before they click, question what they see online, make informed decisions and seek support from a trusted adult whenever they have concerns. These important skills will help them move forward with greater confidence and make safer choices in their online lives.
