I am extremely proud to share the findings from our Ofsted Short Inspection on 15 March which concludes Garlinge Primary School and Nursery continues to be a 'GOOD' school and 'pupils are nurtured at the school and thrive in the calm, orderly environment.

Year 3 Parent Workshop
We would like to invite you to our parent workshop for Year 3, which will be held on Wednesday 5th June from 2:00pm - 3:00pm. This is not a compulsory workshop, however it is a chance for parents to work with their child during a class activity. Entry for the workshop will be via the main entrance on Westfield Road.

Girls Cricket Tournament
You will be delighted to know that your child has been chosen to represent Garlinge at the girls cricket tournament held at Margate Cricket Club on Friday 7th June from 12.30pm - 6.00pm. On this day children will be taken to Margate Cricket Club by school minibus. Children will require a packed lunch to eat on arrival. If your child normally has a free school meal and you would like a packed lunch provided, please indicate on the permission slip attached. The event is expected to finish at 6.00pm. Children will arrive back at Garlinge at the slightly later time of 6.10pm. We therefore request you are available to collect your child promptly at this time. Your child will be provided with a Garlinge sports top and jacket, however you will need to ensure that your child has PE shorts and trainers. We would also advise for them to bring an extra packed lunch and a bottle of water. Refreshments will be on sale but any money that your child brings with them on the day will be their responsibility.

You will be delighted to know that your child has been chosen to represent Garlinge at the Year 3 and 4 cricket tournament held at Margate Cricket Club on Friday 7th June from 8.45am -12.15pm. Children will be taken to Margate Cricket Club by school minibus straight after registration, therefore you will need to ensure your child is in school at 8.45am prompt. The event is expected to finish at 12.00 and we will be back for lunch. Your child will be provided with a Garlinge sports top and jacket, however you will need to ensure that your child has PE shorts and trainers. We would also advise for them to bring an extra bottle of water and a healthy snack. Refreshments will be on sale but any money that your child brings with them on the day will be their responsibility.

Year 4 and 5 Football Tournament
You will be delighted to know your child has been chosen to represent team Garlinge at a 7a-side football festival on Tuesday 11th June at Upton Junior School. Children will be taken to the festival by school minibus ready for a 4.00pm start at Upton, Broadstairs. You can pick your child up from Upton at 5.30 prompt or, alternatively, you can collect your child from Garlinge at the slightly later time of 5.50pm. This event will also help us prepare for the football season ahead when we return to school in September. Your child will be provided with a Garlinge football kit, however you will need to ensure that they bring moulded football boots and shin pads. No metal studs or blades. We would also advise for them to bring an extra bottle of water and a healthy snack.

Year 6 East Kent Science Jamboree
On Thursday 13th June, we are excited to inform you that we will be joining many schools from the area at the East Kent Science Jamboree. Your child has been chosen by their class teacher for this reward trip, as they have demonstrated a commitment to our school values throughout the school year. There will be two groups, one morning and one afternoon, each group will be travelling in the school minibus. The morning group will be leaving school promptly at 8.45 am to travel to the Pfizer's site, (please make sure your child is in school by 8.30am). The afternoon group should arrive home at approx. 3.45 pm, we will keep parents updated of any changes.

Waterloo Cup Relay
You will be delighted to know that your child has been chosen to represent Garlinge at the annual Waterloo Cup relay race at Upton Junior School on Saturday 15th June from 9.30am -12.00pm. Pupils will race in teams of 3 over an 800m distance. Race Times are as follows: Year 3/4 Boys 10.00am Year 3/4 Girls 10.30am Year 5/6 Boys 11.00am Year 5/6 Girls 11.30am Your child will be running in the race highlighted on the letter. Children will need to make their own transport arrangements to Upton Junior School and arrive at least 15 minutes before their race time. We would recommend you stay at the event to support your child. Your child will be provided with a Garlinge sports top, however you will need to ensure that your child has PE shorts and trainers. We would also advise for them to bring an extra bottle of water and a healthy snack.

Infant Agility Finals
Following on from our success at the infant agility Thanet qualifier event, your child has been chosen to represent Thanet at the finals of the Kent School Games infant agility tournament. This will take place on Thursday 20th June at Medway Park. On this day the children must be in school by 8.45am to travel by school minibus to Medway Park ready for the event to start at 10.00 am. Children will arrive back in time for the end of the school. Children will require a packed lunch for the day, an extra bottle of water and a healthy snack. If your child usually has a free school meal and you would like a packed lunch provided, then please indicate on the slip below. Your child will be provided with a school team top, however you will need to ensure that they bring their black PE shorts and trainers for the event.

Girls 5 A Side Football
You will be delighted to know that your child has been chosen to represent Garlinge at the Girls 5 a side football event on Friday 21st June taking place at Upton from 1.30pm until 5.00pm. The children will be taken to Upton by school minibus where they will play competitive 5-a-side football against other local schools. Children will arrive back at Garlinge at the later time of 5.20pm. We therefore request that you are available to collect your child at this time. Alternatively, you may collect your child promptly at 5.00 pm from Upton School. If children arrive back at Garlinge before 5.20pm, you will receive a text from the PE department, therefore please ensure you provide us with up to date contact numbers. Your child will be provided football socks for the event, however will also need to ensure they bring shin pads, their PE kit (white T-shirt and PE shorts) and either trainers or astros. No metal studs. We would also advise them to bring an extra bottle of water and a healthy snack.

Year 1 Howletts Trip
We are writing to inform you, that as part of our Term 6 Science topic: Animals and Their Lifecycles, we are planning an exciting day out to Howletts Zoo on Monday 24th June for classes 1A and 1B. We will leave school promptly at 9.15am, so children will need to arrive at school for 8.45am and will return in time for the end of the school day. The children will be provided with a free packed lunch from school, however if you would like to provide your child with their own could we please ask that it is in a carrier bag so they are able to dispose of them and tick the box on the permission slip below. Children must wear their school top, jumper, appropriate trousers and a light raincoat in case of rain. As there is a large amount of walking at the zoo, we suggest the children wear sensible shoes. Trainers are acceptable. Should we have fine weather we would also advise that children bring a sun hat and to wear sun lotion; this should be applied at home.

Year 6 Stagecoach Meeting
I am inviting you and your child to attend a presentation by the Stagecoach bus company on Monday 24th June at 2:15pm. The presentation will cover what your child needs to know when using the buses to travel to and from secondary school. The meeting should run for approximately 40 minutes and will include information on: Freedom Passes, timetabling information, bullying and citizenship. Children are more than welcome to also attend with you for the meeting if needed.

This will take during the afternoon on Wednesday 26th June at Dane Court Grammar School. On this day children will have an early lunch, then will be taken to Dane Court Grammar School by minibus. We will arrive back at Garlinge at the slightly later time of 3.30pm, we therefore request you are available to collect your child promptly at this time. Your child will be provided with a Garlinge sports kit, however you will need to ensure that they bring trainers with them. We would also advise that they bring a bottle of water and a healthy snack.

Artsmark Celebration Event
During the afternoon, the children will share with other children and teachers how we embed the arts and culture at our school. In addition, they will be given the opportunity to take part in an inspiring workshop that will include a Guinness World Record attempt involving paper aeroplanes. On this day we will walk to and from Dreamland, leaving school at 12.15pm and returning to school at the slightly later time of 4.15pm. Please ensure your child is wearing their full school uniform on this day. We would also advise for your child to bring an extra bottle of water and a healthy snack.

It's time to start planning outfits for non-uniform day! All we ask in exchange for the opportunity for the children to wear what they want is that you provide a donation for the popular Summer Fair tombola. Children can come to school on Friday 28th June in non-school uniform. Please ensure that they are wearing sensible footwear, ideally school shoes or trainers.
