On Monday 29th January, Years 3 and 4 enjoyed a performance from the One Day Creative drama group. The world of online gaming is fast-paced, exciting, really good fun and a great place to learn and play. The performance helped us to be aware of the dangers such as identity theft, inappropriate (18+) content and in-app purchases. The show was a fun way to learn about how to use the internet more safely. We will further our understanding by taking part in some follow-up workshops.
On Monday 20th November, the Year 4 parents and carers were invited to a parent workshop where they got the opportunity to work alongside the children on a fun activity linked to their topic of London. They used a range of materials to create a wintry London skyline picture which was then displayed in the Year 3/4 corridor. We were all very impressed with the quality of the artwork produced that afternoon and the children were very proud of their creations.
On Wednesday 10th and 17th January, Year 4 children enjoyed a cricket session with a professional cricket coach. They thoroughly enjoyed their sessions and had the opportunity to practise a range of cricket skills as well as play a game.
On Friday 13th October we invited parents and carers of Years 3 and 4 to attend a Reading Workshop. This was an opportunity for parents to gain an understanding of how reading is taught at Garlinge, the expectations and how parents can best support their children at home.

3A invited their parents into class. We all worked together to make our own Greek Temples.
In terms 1 and 2, classes 4A and 4B had the opportunity to learn to play the recorder with Mrs Cook. They thoroughly enjoyed learning to play a range of tunes as part of a group and even gave an end of term performance to show how far they had progressed. This term 4C are taking part in recorder lessons.
Year 4's seasonal display featured a flock of Winter Birds, created using a range of different skills and materials. We used wax crayons, ink and poster paint to draw, print and collage these snowy songbirds.
Miss Rowden, Mrs Mason and Mrs Mulhall had the pleasure of running Christmas Art Club. Children from Years 3 and 4 brought their parents along to take part in lots of fun activities. They painted penguin money boxes, made reindeer hats and sewed lots of decorations for their Christmas trees. It was lovely to see so much creativity! Thank you to everyone who took part, we are all looking forward to Easter Art Club.
This term Year 3 took part in the St James' Church Carol Concert hosted by Reverend Rae. The children and parents joined in with the carols and worked together to create a wonderful tableau of the nativity scene. Several children recited passages from the Bible to help tell the story of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem and the events surrounding the birth of baby Jesus. A huge well done and thank you to all of those who took part!
Year 4 have really enjoyed learning about London in their topic lessons and have found out lots of important facts and information about our capital city. They particularly enjoyed learning about famous buildings and landmarks, transport in London and The River Thames. The teachers in Year 4 were also most impressed with the children's enthusiastic and committed approach to a homework project on London which was set. Well done Year 4!
3C have been learning all about Ancient Egypt. We have been looking at what happened when a Pharaoh died and how he was buried. We discovered how mummies were made and designed, then created, our own Egyptian death masks. These would have been made of gold and placed over the face of the mummy before it went into its tomb.
