Dear Parents and Carers
The governors of both Garlinge Primary School and Parkside Community Primary School have been approached by the Local Authority to consider forming a federation of the two schools under the terms of the School Governance (Federations)(England) Regulations 2012 as from 6th January 2020.
The governing bodies have met and agreed in principle to a federation, subject to consultation and certain assurances from the Local Authority.
As Executive Headteacher, Mr Williams will lead both schools with either a Head of School or Deputy Headteachers on each site. Staff will remain with the school to which they have been appointed although there is an expectation that there will be close cooperation in curriculum, training and policies.
Each school will retain its own separate identity in respect of uniform, budgets, admissions, performance tables and inspection by Ofsted. Garlinge will continue to be a Foundation School and part of the Thanet Endeavour Learning Trust while Parkside will continue to be a community primary school within the Canterbury district. Each school will continue to operate on its own site.
Federation will provide:
Name : the proposed name of the federation will be "The Garlinge and Parkside Primary Schools and Nurseries Federation"
A single governing body will be created to govern both schools. It is proposed that the Governing Body will be composed of 15 members; three parents elected by the joint parent body, one staff governor elected by the joint staff, the Executive Headteacher, two foundation governors to represent Thanet Endeavour Learning Trust, a Local Authority governor and seven governors co-opted to represent the local communities, parents and staff. The Head of School and Deputy Headteachers may be invited to be Associate governors. It is anticipated that at least three of the governors should be from Parkside and that meetings will be held in both schools in rotation.
Kent County Council will continue to be the admissions authority for Parkside Community Primary School and the Governing Body will be the admissions authority for Garlinge Primary School and Nursery. The admissions policies of each school will remain the same.
You are invited to respond to this proposal in writing by Friday 8th November 2019 addressed to the Clerk to the Governors at either:
Garlinge Primary School & Nursery, Westfield Road, Margate. CT9 5PA
or: Parkside Community Primary School, Tennyson Avenue, Canterbury.CT1 1EP
In addition there will be public consultation meetings held at Parkside on Tuesday 8th October at 6:00pm or at Garlinge on Thursday 10th October at 6:00pm at which you will be able to ask questions and give your thoughts on the proposal.
If you have any questions or queries please contact the PA to the Headteacher
